Chances of Seeing
Each Kind of Whale:
Orcas can be seen in the San Juan's all year, and are the most frequently seen whales on all of our tours.
Humpback and Gray Whales migrate through the Salish Sea on their journey between colder feeding areas in the north in summer and warmer breeding areas in the south in winter.
Minke Whales can be seen here year round.
Kayak Tours are fun for everyone from beginners to experts in our stable two-person kayaks with all the necessary gear and a professional guide.
Our Point Doughty Tour leaves from the North end of Orcas Island. No kayak experience is required for this tour and our guides will assist with gear adjustment and basic instruction. We spend about three hours on the water visiting rugged Point Doughty State Park where we commonly see harbor seals, porpoises, sea stars, and bald eagles.
For more experienced paddlers we offer a full day tour of Sucia Island checking in at 9:00 AM where you will be transported to the island on a high-speed powerboat and enjoy a leisurely paddle of this state park. This remote uninhabited state park island is the gem of the San Juans, full of coves and beaches and known for fossils and abundant wildlife. Pack a picnic lunch and water for your excursion that returns to Orcas Island around 5:00 PM
Kayak Rentals are available by reservation only and come with all the necessary gear for a self guided excursion.
With single and tandem kayaks available in 4 hour, 8 hour, 24 hour, 3 day, and one week increments Outer Island offers options to meet your needs.
For guests not launching or picking up from our office we offer delivery and pick up twice daily at 8:30 AM and 6:30 PM
