We headed out this afternoon into the welcomed sunshine. We started north looking for wildlife on Sucia Island. We found a bald eagle nest right on shore, with several huge ochre sea stars just below it. Next, we headed up toward Saturna Island on our search for whales. On the way we stopped by a harbor seal haul out and saw dozens of seals basking in the sunshine. We even spotted a few seal pups scooting around on the rocks! They were so cute, watching us with their big eyes. Not long afterwards, we saw our first whale spout of the day. We cruised toward the whale and got to it just as it was diving down. While we waited for a resurfacing, we watched a sandhill crane fly by. Soon the whale BCX1251 “Orion” came up for air. He was headed south lunge feeding just ahead of us. He even showed us his fluke each time he dove. What a treat!
