We set off on our trip this morning and headed south along Burrows Island. We stopped by the peregrine falcon nest to see if the chicks were visible. They seemed to be further back in the nest, so we couldn't see them. We continued toward Smith Island where we found several tufted puffins! A little further to the south we found two brown pelicans, a rare treat in the Salish Sea. We continued further to east toward Whidbey Island, where we found a group of Bigg's killer whales! They were zigzagging each surfacing, keeping us on our toes. We were treated to two really great encounters as they passed by our boat. We spent some quality time with them before we headed off toward the north. We went under the Deception Pass bridge, enjoying the bird life and the seals that were hauled out on Strawberry Island. We had another great morning out on the water.

We trekked off toward the south along Whidbey Island. We pushed into Admiralty Inlet, past Port Townsend. As we entered into Port Townsend Bay, we found some killer whales! They were the same killer whales as the morning trip. They were all grouped up heading into the bay. They stayed grouped up for a bit, but then spread out and it appeared they were on the search. As the made it toward the southern end of the bay, we think they got something for dinner. We saw them swimming in circles and darting in different directions. We saw some splashing and then they started heading out of the bay. As they headed north, we also turned north and made our way back toward home port. We encountered some sporty seas on our way home. We past some Steller sea lions hauled out on a navigational marker. As we progressed north, the seas got better and better. We went under Deception Pass bridge and spotted several seals, including a really newborn pup on Strawberry Island. It was a gorgeous evening as we cruised back toward home port.
