Today I had the incredible experience of watching the T037A’s teach their youngest member how to hunt for an unlucky Harbor Seal.
After spending a good amount of time looking around for the perfect practice prey, the group of 5 decided on a Harbor Seal that had been swimming around far from shore.
The Harbor Seal made a quick escape and took refuge between the hulls of our boat. Since we had powered off our engines when the Orcas got close to us, it was a safe spot for the seal to hide.
What followed was over an hour of Killer Whales circling our boat, trying to get at the Harbor Seal. We were completely stuck drifting with our power completely shut off before the orcas eventually gave up on the little Seal. It was an experience unlike any other!
